Installation

In this section you will learn how to download, verify and run Mugnsoft Pulse on Windows, using the portable version or the installer.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
  • An internet connection to activate the license
  • Administrator rights only if you use the installer

The portable version is the simplest way to run Pulse, including on computers where you are not an administrator.

Download

Download the archive mugnsoft-pulse-1.2.0.windows-amd64.zip from the Mugnsoft download page, or directly from PowerShell:

Verify the download

The archive is signed with Mugnsoft’s GPG key, and the download page gives the commands to check it. With GnuPG installed, download the signature and Mugnsoft’s public key, then verify the archive:

The result must contain Good signature from "Mugnsoft (Mugnsoft's gpg key) <info@mugnsoft.com>" and the key fingerprint F2C7 8F33 3F47 C8D6 1D48 9F0F DEC2 74EC 3906 B138. GnuPG also warns that the key is not certified with a trusted signature: this is expected until you have certified the key yourself.

Note:

If the signature is not good, do not use the archive. Delete it, download it again, and contact support if the check still fails.

Extract

Extract the archive into a folder with a short path, such as C:\Mugnsoft. The archive contains deeply nested files, and extraction fails with path too long when the destination path exceeds about 75 characters, which can happen in a Downloads folder synchronized with OneDrive.

From PowerShell, in the folder where you downloaded the archive:


Unblock-File .\mugnsoft-pulse-1.2.0.windows-amd64.zip
Expand-Archive .\mugnsoft-pulse-1.2.0.windows-amd64.zip -DestinationPath C:\Mugnsoft

Or from File Explorer: right-click the archive, choose Properties, tick Unblock and click OK, then right-click it again and choose Extract All.

Note:

Unblocking the archive before extracting it prevents the Windows protected your PC warning when Pulse starts. Files extracted by File Explorer from an archive downloaded with a browser inherit its “downloaded from the internet” mark.

Start Pulse

Run C:\Mugnsoft\mugnsoft-pulse\Mugnsoft Pulse.exe. On first launch Pulse asks you to activate a license: see License activation.

To start Pulse from the desktop, right-click Mugnsoft Pulse.exe and choose Send to → Desktop (create shortcut) (on Windows 11, Send to is under Show more options).

Update or remove

  • Update: close Pulse, delete the mugnsoft-pulse folder, and extract the new version in its place.
  • Remove: close Pulse and delete the mugnsoft-pulse folder.

Your projects and settings are stored in %APPDATA%\Mugnsoft-Pulse, not in the application folder, so they are kept across updates. Delete that folder as well to remove them.

Installer

Use the installer, mugnsoft-electron-setup-1.2.0.exe, if you prefer a Start menu entry and .side files opening in Pulse by double-click.

Note:

Only the portable archive is published with a GPG signature. If you need to verify what you install, use the portable version.

Run the installer

This release is not yet signed with a commercial code-signing certificate, so Windows displays two warnings before installing. Both are expected.

Windows protected your PC: Windows SmartScreen blocks the first run of an unsigned installer.

  1. Click More info
  2. Check that the app name is mugnsoft-electron-setup-1.2.0.exe
  3. Click Run anyway

On a French Windows, the screen reads Windows a protégé votre ordinateur: click Informations complémentaires, then Exécuter quand même.

Publisher: Unknown: because Pulse is installed for all users, Windows asks for administrator approval and shows the publisher as unknown. Click Yes.

Then choose the installation folder, or keep the default, and click Install. Shortcuts are added to the desktop and the Start menu, and Pulse starts when the installation finishes.

Uninstall

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, select Mugnsoft Pulse and click Uninstall. Your projects and settings in %APPDATA%\Mugnsoft-Pulse are kept; delete that folder to remove them as well.
